Thousands of Texas teachers are getting a raise this year, thanks to a new school funding law signed by Governor Greg Abbott in June. Pay increases will vary by experience and district size. At Pleasant Grove ISD, the school board is set to vote on raises next week, with teachers of three to four years earning $4,000 more and those with five or more years getting an $8,000 boost.
LEISD’s Assistant Superintendent Kristi Brown says the raises help attract and retain teachers, especially in high-need areas. Both districts also benefit from the Teacher Incentive Allotment program, rewarding educators for improving student performance.
