Texas lawmakers are taking a closer look at the rapid growth of data centers and what it could mean for the state's water supply and electric grid.
During a House committee hearing, lawmakers said they need better information from technology companies before considering new regulations. State officials reported that only about 17 percent of data centers required to report water use have done so. Local leaders also voiced concerns about fast-moving development, saying counties often have little advance notice.
The issue is expected to remain a priority ahead of the 2027 legislative session.
