A Texarkana woman was arrested Monday on a trademark counterfeiting charge after authorities say she falsely claimed to represent the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation program.
According to the Bowie County Sheriff's Office, 67-year-old Bessie “Bess” Gamble Williams allegedly distributed materials using the Toys for Tots trademark and logo while claiming to be connected to the charity.
The sheriff’s office previously warned the public that Williams was not associated with Toys for Tots in any way and urged residents not to donate money or toys through her.
Authorities say Williams was taken into custody Monday while attending Bowie County Commissioner’s Court at the courthouse in New Boston. She was later released on her own recognizance and ordered to appear in court.
