Texarkana residents are voicing frustration after the city’s Vital Statistics Office closed to in-person visitors on Monday. The office, which handles birth and death records, is undergoing a staffing reorganization and will remain closed until further notice.
Some residents took to Facebook to express concerns about delays in receiving vital records, especially death certificates and documents needed for school enrollment.
City officials say applications submitted before April 28 will still be processed. Long-form certificates can be requested by mail or at City Hall, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Short-form certificates remain available same-day at the Bowie County Clerk’s office in New Boston.
