The City of Texarkana, Texas will host a dedication ceremony Friday, October 10th at noon to unveil the replacement of the Wavell’s Colony historical marker near the downtown Post Office and Courthouse.
The original marker, installed in 1969, was stolen in 2015. Historic Preservation Officer Matt Solomon says restoring it honors the settlers and stories that shaped the community.
The marker commemorates General Arthur Wavell’s 1826 settlement project that once spanned much of Bowie, Red River, and Miller counties. Local food trucks will be on-site from 11 to 1 for those attending the ceremony.
