Texarkana, Arkansas residents will head to the polls next month to decide on a proposed bond to improve city streets and drainage systems. City leaders say the public works department faces a $6.5 million annual shortfall to maintain infrastructure.
The November ballot will include three questions: refunding existing bonds, issuing $41.9 million for street repairs, and $5.3 million for drainage improvements. Mayor Allen Brown says the plan is essential to maintain — not expand — city infrastructure.
If approved, property owners would pay about $50 more a year for every $100,000 in property value. Town hall meetings are scheduled in each ward, with early voting beginning November 12 and Election Day set for November 18.
