The Texarkana Texas Police Department is warning residents to stay alert after one of its officers was targeted in a scam attempt Tuesday morning.
Police say the officer received about 30 calls in just a few minutes from different numbers, many labeled as spam. When he answered one call, a recording claimed his Yahoo account had been compromised. Soon after, he received a Yahoo security message in Indonesian containing a verification code. Police say scammers were likely trying to gain access to his account.
Officers remind the public never to share passwords, verification codes, banking information, or personal details with unexpected callers or messages.
