A new bill could put an end to the long-disputed Marvin Nichols Reservoir in East Texas.

A new bill could put an end to the long-disputed Marvin Nichols Reservoir in East Texas. State Rep. Gary Vandeaver’s House Bill 2109 would remove any reservoir from the state water plan if construction hasn’t started in 50 years. The Marvin Nichols project, proposed in 1968, would flood 66,000 acres in Red River, Titus, and Franklin counties—land home to generations of ranchers and farmers. Residents say it threatens their homes, businesses, and cemeteries. Supporters of the bill call it a fight to protect their land and future. If passed, the bill could become law on September 1.
