A former Texarkana Texas Independent School District substitute teacher is facing five felony counts of injury to a child after alleged abuse was captured on classroom video.
Police say 36-year-old Lecordrette Benton abused five autistic, non-verbal kindergarten students at Parks Elementary on Nov. 14. Investigators say the video shows Benton striking, yelling at, and forcefully restraining the children. The incident was reported after school staff reviewed the footage at a parent’s request.
Benton is free on $100,000 bond and faces up to ten years in prison on each count.
