A Bowie County grand jury has indicted 50-year-old Clyde Allen Stephens II for capital murder in the June 19 killings of Donna Culpepper, 63, and Charles Beckham, 64, at a home in De Kalb, Texas. Stephens also faces charges of felony murder, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Investigators say Stephens was caught in Culpepper’s stolen rental car in Arkansas and arrested after a brief chase. Authorities believe he may have been burglarizing Beckham’s home, stealing firearms, when the murders occurred. Culpepper died from a single gunshot wound; Beckham was shot multiple times.
Stephens remains in the Bowie County jail on $3.2 million bond and could face the death penalty if convicted..
