Fire officials are urging Bowie County residents to obey burn bans after two wildfires burned more than 35 acres Saturday.
One fire scorched nearly 30 acres and threatened nearby properties, prompting helicopter water drops to help contain the flames. A second fire burned more than five acres.
Investigators say both fires started when people burned outdoors despite a countywide burn ban.
The Liberty-Eylau Fire Department reminds residents that burn bans help protect homes, property, and lives. Officials also warn that anyone whose fire escapes and damages another property could face citations, even when no burn ban is in effect.
Our entire listening area is currently under a burn ban.
