Winthrop man gets 97 months for child pornography

A Winthrop, Arkansas, man faces eight years in federal prison for receipt of child pornography.

70-year-old Charles Thompson was indicted by a grand jury in June of 2019 after allegations from two young girls that he had been inappropriate with them and showed them images of naked children on his computer.

A search of Thompson’s home by the Little River County Sheriff’s Office brought to light more than 1,000 images of child pornography, making the case a federal matter.

Thompson pleaded guilty in January of 2020.

While out on bond, Thompson was ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18.  However, Thompson was observed in social media posts holding a child in a diaper, which were used as cause to imprison him until his sentencing.

District Judge Susan Hickey sentenced Thompson to 97 months in federal prison on Thursday, after which he must register as a sex offender.
