Texarkana Regional Airport is getting ready to celebrate and break ground on a new passenger terminal this weekend.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be live streamed tomorrow at noon on their website and social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter).
The new terminal will include expansion opportunities for more airlines and destinations, and room for concessions. The new terminal will also initially include two sky bridges that connect from the terminal directly to the aircraft’s boarding door.
The ceremony coincides with a celebration of 90 years of commercial airline service between American Airlines and Texarkana Regional Airport that began in1931, with a Ford Tri-Motor airplane. The Tri-Motor would pick up the mail and refuel in Texarkana on its route.
Everyone is welcome to come out to the airport (use long-term lot for parking) from 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM CST on Saturday June 12th and from 9:00 AM -12:00 PM CST on Sunday to celebrate the 90th Anniversary between the Airport and American Airlines.
Donate $100 to the Flagship Detroit Foundation (includes membership) and ride on the DC-3 aircraft that will be here for the 90th Anniversary between the Airport and American Airlines. Those that do not wish to donate are still highly encouraged to come out during those times to view/tour the DC-3 aircraft and LifeNet helicopter as well as enjoy groundbreaking photo opportunities.
NOTE: All DC-3 passengers must sign a release of liability and be physically able to climb stairs. All minors must be accompanied by an adult responsible for that child. DC-3 flights are dependent on wind/weather conditions and minimum number of passengers.
