Man drives onto grounds of Texas Capitol, damaging gate and metal bollard

A man was booked into the Travis County Jail on Wednesday after authorities say he drove onto the grounds of the Texas State Capitol, damaging a gate and metal bollard.

42-year-old Dries M. Bedingfield of San Marcos was charged with criminal mischief and reckless driving after he used his vehicle to drive through an iron gate and into a grassy area.

Bedingfield crashed his vehicle into a metal bollard and fixture near the south steps of the Capitol.

The Capitol Region Criminal Investigation Division is looking into the case.
