Eight charges connected to the solicitation of a minor are on the table for a former Lafayette County Jail employee.
19-year-old Gavin Hughes was employed as a correctional officer with the jail until last month when the victim’s mother informed authorities that she had found messages from Hughes on her daughter’s phone. According to authorities, the messages began when the victim was 12 and continued after she turned 13.
According to the arrest affidavit, Hughes offered to pay the girl for nude pictures despite knowing she was underage. Hughes also allegedly tried to pay the girl to keep quiet when she confronted him about the messages.
Lafayette Circuit Court filed charges against Hughes on Tuesday including six counts of computer child pornography, a single count of indecency with a child, and witness bribery.
